Welcoming Dr. Ibish, MD the New Director of Our TBI Program

We’re excited to announce the newest addition to the Watermark Medical Partners team. Dr. Abdullah Ibish, MD, is the new Medical Director of our TBI Program, just in time for National Traumatic Brain Injury Awareness Month. Dr. Abdullah Ibish, MD will lead our TBI efforts with extensive clinical expertise in neurology and neurocritical care.

During his 7 years of experience in the field, Dr. Ibish has earned a triple board-certification as a Neurologist (ABPN) and board-certified Stroke Specialist (ABPN).

Dr. Ibish’s Credentials and Experience

Dr. Ibish, completed a Stroke Fellowship in the Department of Neurocritical Care & Stroke Neurology at the University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine. With a degree in chemistry and molecular biology, he graduated with distinction from the University of California at Santa Barbara. After, he attended medical school at Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington, DC.

At the National Institute of Health (NIH) in Bethesda Maryland, he completed his Clinical Training. Dr. Ibish went on to become the Resident Physician at the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine. He completed his Neurology Residency at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine/Jackson Memorial Hospital. There, Dr. Ralph Sacco M.D. and Dr. Seemant Chaturvedi MD inspired him to pursue Stroke and Cerebrovascular diseases.

Inspiration and Notoriety

After moving to Los Angeles, Dr. Ibish completed an ACGME Fellowship in Vascular Neurology at University of Southern California’s Keck School of Medicine. Under the leadership of Dr. Patrick Lyden. Dr. Lyden, Dr. Ibish led the pivotal NINDS t-PA for Acute Stroke Trial – the first proven therapy for stroke. Accordingly, his leadership in large, multinational trials and stroke therapy for NIH has gained him global recognition in the field.

More recently, Dr. Ibish completed a 2-year Clinical Fellowship Program in Neurocritical Care / Traumatic Brain Injury Program at UCLA Ronald Reagan Medical Center. Additionally, he held an academic position as a Clinical Instructor at the UCLA David Geffen school of medicine. There, he taught both medical students and resident in the Department of Neurosurgery and Neurocritical Care.

Dr. Ibish’s clinical interests include:

  • thrombolytic health disparities,
  • healthcare system research,
  • utilization of advanced imaging in acute ischemic stroke,
  • the intersection of stroke and Critical Care Neurology/Endovascular Neurosurgery.

He’s especially interested in Stroke management and Neuro-Critical care, Traumatic Brain Injury, and Trauma Intensive Care. 

Finally, as the leader of our TBI Program, Dr. Ibish will employ both state-of-the-art technologies and hands-on clinical expertise. His wealth of experience will allow him to best help TBI patients navigate the care process to recovery.
